Training to Impact LLC (TTI) is thrilled to share the impactful outcomes of our recent engagement with the Portland Migrant Public Schools during the 2023-2024 school year. We had the honor of conducting eight training sessions for parent groups involved in the Portland Public Schools (PPS) Migrant Education Program. These sessions addressed crucial topics such as drug, tobacco, and alcohol prevention, bullying, and college readiness, among others.
Our approach began with gathering input from participants to tailor the sessions to their specific needs. Utilizing popular education and adult learning theories, we created engaging and relevant training sessions. Parents, deeply committed to their children’s success, consistently attended and contributed valuable insights.
A key highlight of our program was the graduation in June 2024. Over thirty parents received a certificate recognizing their hours of participation, with a celebratory event that included their children. This moment highlighted the importance of family involvement and the collective commitment to educational success.
In addition to our regular sessions, we were privileged to join a field trip to University of Oregon in Eugene, organized by PPS. This tour, which included both parents and students, provided a valuable opportunity for families to explore higher education options and engage with the university environment.
The dedication of these parents extended beyond our training sessions. TTI Founder and Director, Ana Ruiz Morillo invited a select group of parents to present at the Oregon Migrant School Conference and later at the National Migrant School Conference. Their growth in confidence and ability to present to a larger audience was remarkable, inspiring both parents and educators from across the USA with their heartfelt stories of overcoming challenges.
We are incredibly proud of the progress and impact we have witnessed.
One mom shared:
“Muchísimas gracias por esta linda oportunidad que me han brindado de presentar en la conferencia a su lado. Le comente a mi terapista que participé con ustedes en la conferencia y me felicito por ir mejorando poco a poco. Espero seguir teniendo oportunidad de seguir acompañándolos a dar un testimonio. Confío en Dios que mi vida cambiará por completo y que mis hijas llegarán a ser grandes.”
(Translation: “Thank you so much for this wonderful opportunity to present alongside you at the conference. I told my therapist that I participated with you at the conference and he congratulated me for improving little by little. I hope to continue having the opportunity to accompany you in giving testimony. I trust in God that my life will change completely and that my daughters will become great.”)
A dad shared:
(Translation: “My wife and I enjoy attending your Training to Impact classes because they have helped us a lot. Many things are new to me in the way of talking to my children so that they listen to me, but now my wife and I work as a team and are seeing positive changes in our children. Thank you for changing our lives with these classes. We continue making the effort to attend each month because we see the results are good. Difficult or not, we put it into practice.”)
At Training to Impact, we are dedicated to making a meaningful impact in our community.
